The design process and the inspiration for the cardboard chair. The approach I took was to play with the material and picks things that I like about it and go on from there.
Here is the short description of the process.

Nick – Chair Inspiration
The Eames LCW was the first chair I ever became enamored with, so I can’t help but keep it in the back of my mind as I design my own chair.
While the LCW is a great source of inspiration for me, the Savannah Rocking Chair pushes me even more in wanting to explore the possibilities of bending plywood. (Savannah Rocking Chair: http://bit.ly/Yg5rHS)
I also want to explore the tension between a durable material like wood and something seemingly fragile yet structurally sound. Specifically, I’m inspired by the work of Bertjan Pot, whose fiberglass “Random Light” lamp shade (http://bit.ly/Xv1KRA) and carbon fiber “Carbon Copy” chairs (http://bit.ly/10XtcGX) evoke a combination of curiosity, delight, and even a bit of fear.
